How to fill out a PDF form in your browser

Pick Text on the right and click the line on the form where the answer belongs. A box lands there, sized for a form line, and you type into it. Drag it to line it up, or drag a corner to change its size. Check marks, dates and your name work the same way.

Fill a PDF form that is not fillable

Nothing here depends on the form having fields to click. A scanned application, a vendor pack drawn as ruled boxes, a photograph of a printed page: you place the answers where they belong and they are written into the file. If the form does have real fields and you would rather lock them, an option appears for that.

Type an answer once and use it everywhere

Forms ask for the same thing several times. A company name on the header, again beside the tax number, again on the signature line. Every answer you place is listed beside the form. Press the plus next to it and click the next spot. Change the wording once and every copy changes.

Fonts, colors and sizes

Select any answer and a bar appears with the font (sans, serif or mono), bold, italic, size, color and alignment. The size starts on Auto, which fits the box; set a point size when a form specifies one. The style you choose carries to the next field, so a form that wants everything in 10pt serif is set once. Shift+Enter starts a second line, for an address.

Correct, highlight, redact

Erase puts a white box over a wrong pre-printed value so you can type the correction on top. That is what editing a PDF honestly means: a browser cannot rewrite the original letters in place, and tools that claim to usually produce a slightly different font in a slightly different place. Highlight and Box mark things up. Redact is different in kind: at download the page is re-rendered as an image with the black box burned in, so the text underneath is removed from the file rather than covered, which is the mistake most redaction gets wrong.

Add a signature to the form

Type your name in a handwriting style, draw it, or upload a photo of a signature on paper. Place it and your initials the same way as any other field. It is an electronic signature, which is enough for most everyday forms; it is not a certificate-based digital signature.
