How to sign a PDF in your browser

Pick a PDF, build your mark once, then drop it wherever the document needs it. Initials, your printed name, the date, and a company stamp work the same way. When the layout is right, press sign and the finished file downloads.

Three ways to add a signature: type, draw or upload

Type your name and pick a handwriting style, draw it with a mouse or a finger, or upload a photo of a signature you already have on paper. Uploaded photos get their white background knocked out, so the signature sits on the page instead of covering it with a pale box.

Type your name once and use it everywhere

Every word you place shows up in the list on the right. Edit it there and it changes everywhere it appears, so a name that sits in six places is still one thing to correct. To use a word again, drag its row onto the page or press the plus beside it.

Add initials to every page of a contract

Contracts often want initials in the same spot on every page. Place one initials field, open its page menu, and choose every page or a range. Those copies stay linked by position, so moving one moves them all.

Fonts, colors, corrections

Select any typed field for a bar with font, bold, italic, size, color and alignment. Under Mark up, Erase whites out a wrong value so a correction can be typed over it, Highlight and Box draw attention, and Redact removes what is under it: the page is re-rendered as an image with the box burned in, so the text is gone from the file rather than hidden behind a rectangle.

Is an electronic signature legally binding?

This produces an electronic signature. Under the ESIGN Act and UETA that is enough for most agreements between businesses and individuals in the United States. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, which binds a signature to a verified identity through a certificate authority. If a document specifically calls for a certified or qualified signature, you need a provider that issues certificates.
